Candidates of the Year

is proud to announce Lindsey Barnett, 7th Grade science teacher at Dunbar Middle School, as Secondary Candidate of the Year. In her short time at Dunbar Middle School, Barnett has gained the admiration of students, administrators and coworkers alike for her enthusiasm and commitment to her students. According to Dunbar MS Principal Crystal Goodman, "[Barnett's] classroom management skills could be modeled for 'best practices' with any group of teachers". Barnett was also named Beginning Teacher of the Year at Dunbar Middle School in Forth Worth ISD.

is also proud to announce Kristin Erlandson, 5th-6th Grade Special Education teacher at Sam Jamison Middle School, as Elementary Candidate of the Year. Erlandson has shown an eager willingness to learn and strives to present instruction in a way that maximizes student learning. According to Supervisor Judy Koch, Erlandson "possesses that unique ability to see into the soul of each student and pull out the most they are capable of giving". Erlandson was also named New Teacher of the Year at Sam Jamison Middle School in Pearland ISD.

introduced the first annual Candidate of the Year program in the 2007-2008 school year, to honor one secondary candidate and one elementary candidate who exhibits exceptional dedication to the field of education. Both recipients of the Candidate of the Year award received a $4,000 stipend.
