Teacher Certification (Domestic): Program Fees

Total Cost of Program (All program fees are non-refundable) $4,000.00
This is the anticipated cost for a candidate who completes all program requirements according to the program timeline.
 
Application Fee $50.00
 
Program Access Fee $250.00
  • Due prior to receiving the Statement of Eligibility
  • Due prior to beginning online instruction
  • Due prior to receiving test approval to take content TExES/ExCET test
  •  
    Online Course Instruction Participation & Field Experience Fee $3,700.00
  • All candidates enrolled in the instructional courses are responsible for this fee, once hired by a district, this fee is normally paid through a Payroll Deduction plan.

    Payment Options  
    Candidates electing to serve as the teacher of record have the option to participate in one of the following plans:

    (1) Have the $3,700 fees payroll deducted by the hiring school district during the first year of teaching,

    (2) Make full payment within 30 days of the start of the school year or 30 days prior to your start date, or

    (3) Sign a Personal Payment Plan indicating monthly payments made directly to program if payroll deductions are not available at the district.

     
    Examinations
     
    TExES/ExCET (cost per examination) $120.00
    Every candidate must pass at least two certification tests (content area and PPR) prior to being recommended to the state for certification. Additionally, Bilingual, Spanish, and French certification requires the Texas Oral Proficiency Test (TOPT).
     
    Certification Fees--payable to SBEC
    Probationary Certificate Fee $52.00
    Standard Certificate Fee $77.00
    Fingerprinting $47.00
     
    Spanish Proficiency Test  
    This in-house test is available for candidates who speak Spanish and wish to have Bilingual added to their eligible content areas of initial certification. $25.00
     

     

    Renewal Fees

    Instructional Renewal $225.00

    Candidates who do not complete the six instructional courses within the six month time frame must pay another access fee. If continuation is approved, candidates will be given three months to complete their coursework.

     
    Extension Fee $500.00

    Candidates who do not complete the program requirements by the end of their field experience must apply for a continuation. If the continuation is approved, candidates must pay an extension fee to be eligible to participate in a second field experience.

     

    Re-Evaluation Fee

    Transcript Re-Evaluation $30.00

    Candidates who complete additional college course work to add specific content areas to their Statement of Eligibility or who send additional transcripts from colleges or universities not listed on their application must pay a re-evaluation fee.
