Principal Certification: Field Experience

Candidates will have two options for completing the two semester Field Experience requirement.

Option I is designed for candidates who will be employed as an assistant principal or principal with a TEA recognized school during the internship phase. Candidates electing this option may apply for a Probationary Administrator Certificate upon obtaining a campus administrator position. Candidates electing Option I will participate in a payroll deduction payment plan.

Option 2 is designed for candidates who will not be employed as an assistant principal or principal during the internship but will have authorized release time by their hiring district to participate in the field experience. Candidates desiring to participate in Option 2 must submit a commitment statement from the district. The district commitment will be considered by the Review Committee to determine appropriateness of field experience. The 240 hours of the internship may be acquired through observation of various aspects of the principal's responsibilities. The required 240 hours may be acquired in the following areas:
